Organisational Context

Stephanos Foundation is a Reformed Christian Non-Governmental Organisation based in Chilangoma, Chileka, Blantyre. Taking care of orphans and vulnerable children in various programmes, such as an orphanage, daycare centre, nursery and primary school, vocational training centre, and outreach projects. The initiative for the Foundation started in The Netherlands and was established in Malawi in 1994.

Stephanos Foundation is registered with CONGOMA and NGORA.

Currently Stephanos Foundation has three vacancies; Primary School Head Teacher, Primary School Teacher, and Agriculture & Agribusiness Instructor.

POST: PRIMARY SCHOOL HEAD TEACHER

Reporting to: The Executive Director

Level: Senior Member

Responsible for: Primary School Staff Members

Overall purpose

The incumbent shall manage and administer all primary school responsibilities, ensuring efficiency in the achievement of excellent Educational standards and welfare of staff and learners. S/he shall supervise and coordinate all activities of the department, contribute towards policy formulation and execution, strategic planning, budgeting and implementation. The incumbent shall represent the
organisation on matters concerning the department, do job evaluation and performance appraisals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, motivate and lead all staff to achieve the highest professional standards
  • Promote a culture of encouragement, support and challenge in order to achieve each child’s full potential and the highest possible educational standards
  • Ensure job descriptions and performance Management of all staff is based on clear roles and responsibilities, reviewed at least annually and consistent with current conditions of employment.
  • Maintain sound procedures for the security, supervision and maintenance of the school environment ensuring that all health and safety regulations are met
  • Contribute to and lead on the handling of individual disciplinary cases
  • Maintaining and developing the Christian ethos, values and overall purposes of the school
  • To carry out the duties of a General class teacher including the provision of cover for absent teachers
  • Ensure exemplary standards of behavior and attendance
  • Monitor, evaluate and review classroom practice and promote improvement strategies, aim for outstanding standards of learning and teaching at all times
  • Build effective relationships with all stakeholders through excellent communication and interpersonal skills, taking and providing appropriate advice

Job specification

  • Degree in Education
  • T2 Teaching Certificate or equivalent
  • Minimum of five years’ working experience as a Headteacher
  • Proficient in Microsoft Packages
  • Strategic thinker
