BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW

Mudzi Connect is an independent, intermediary grant-making organization that invests directly in the ideas of local communities. It exists to unlock the potential of local communities by investing in their ideas, strengthening their skills, and building lasting partnerships. We achieve this by placing our communities at the core of our initiatives, valuing their perspectives, needs, and aspirations. From 2023, Mudzi Connect has been implementing the Community Philanthropy through Community Foundations Development Project across Malawi. Mudzi Connect now seeks the services of a Program and Outreach Coordinator (POC). The POC will be responsible for deepening and growing the community philanthropy work in Malawi by nurturing new and existing Community Foundations, and by leading organizational communication and outreach activities. This position will require frequent travel to meet with communities as well as engagement with the media.

RESPONSIBILITIES

● In partnership with the PM, plan and execute all CF/CP planned program activities.
● Ensure compliance with Development Partners’ terms and conditions, policies, and procedures.
● Ensure timely achievement of project deliverables and project accountability.
● Develop Community Philanthropy training materials and facilitate training/workshops with identified Community Foundations.
● In partnership with WC staff, assess CF’s organizational structures and systems and engage in capacity strengthening of the same.
● Develop community philanthropy information dissemination tools and materials such as brochures, leaflets and online posts to help grow the understanding of Community Philanthropy in Malawi.
● Research and develop community specific fundraising strategies and support emerging Community Foundations in using the same to fundraise for their community projects.
● Collect relevant data required for compliance reporting and coordinate the preparation and submission of technical reports.
● Track grant milestones and assist in preparation and submission of amendments, award extensions, and other required reports.
● Take part in periodic site visits to monitor program implementation and liaise closely with target groups to ensure increased success, as well as to take photos of projects for media filing and updates.
● Lead the design of capacity strengthening activities for all CFs.
● Capture, review and verify Matching grant documentation in readiness for team approval prior to proving funding.
● Lead the development of the main CF/CP roll out strategy in Malawi.
● Take part in proposal development to generate new funding for the organization.
● Oversee all Mudzi Connect communications- creating content and managing Social media including Facebook page, Website, print and other electronic media such as LinkedIn, Tik-Tok etc.
● Capture photos for the entire MC program and develop stories for publicity and TOC marketing.
● Any other duties as assigned by the PM and ED from time to time

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

● Bachelor’s Degree in Media for Development, Journalism or related fields
● At least 3 years experience in managing community driven projects, and/or working at the intersection of development and communications.
● Fluent in more than one local language(s)
● Excellent English writing including story editing and publications
● Ability and willingness to work and travel throughout the country
● Deep commitment to understanding and sensitivity to the unique situation for women and marginalized groups in the country, and especially how it manifests at the local level
● Ability to work remotely as part of a team and communicate productively and proactively
● Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills

● A mature and confident professional in the workplace
