Job Description
The National Youth Council of Malawi is a statutory corporation established by an Act of Parliament-The National Youth Council of Malawi Act (Act No 22 of 1996). Its functions include developing, promoting, and controlling youth activities, registering youth organizations, organizing scholarships, establishing cooperation guidelines, and promoting training courses. The Council’s vision is to build a Malawi where young people can develop their full potential and contribute to sustainable development. It is an implementing arm of the Ministry of Youth, comprising the General Assembly, Board of Directors, Secretariat, and affiliates (registered youth organizations). The Council works collaboratively with youth organizations, government agencies, civil society, and other stakeholders to empower young people and advocate for policies that promote their development and participation in national decision-making processes.
PROGRAMMES ASSISTANT
Profile of the position
The Programmes Assistant reports to the Programme Officers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Director of Programmes and Programme Officers in planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of programmes activities
- Support the Communications and Advocacy Officer in developing brochures, newsletters, and other IEC materials
Support the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, - and Learning Officer in
- coordinating affiliate reporting and feedback, including updating and maintaining a database of youth activities and organizations under the Council.
- Be responsible for supervision of volunteers assisting the Council in various activities
- Act as secretary to the Director of Programmes.
- Be responsible for any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Required qualification and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Humanities, Education, Development Communications, Agriculture, Public Health or other related fields.
- Knowledge and skills in project management cycle
- Knowledge in report writing and record management
- Good command of written and spoken English with exceptional listening skills
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrable willingness to learn and grow professionally
- High aptitude with an ability to learn and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
- Highly engaged young person, open minded with good understanding of multiculturalism, diversity, inclusion as well as gender and social issues.
- Knowledge of participatory approaches
- Knowledge of national development policies related to youth development
- 2 years’ work experience in a development related field
