The Hunger Project Malawi (THP – Malawi), is a branch of the Global Hunger Project, a non-profit,

Our mission is to end hunger and poverty by pioneering sustainable, grassroots, women-centered strategies and advocating for their widespread adoption in countries throughout the world. THP-Malawi has been operating in Malawi since 1999 and is currently running programs and projects in the following districts: Blantyre, Chikhwawa, Dedza, Neno, Nsanje, Ntcheu, Phalombe, Salima and Zomba.
PROJECT ACCOUNTANT
Position Summary
The position reports to the Finance Manager, and supports the management of project finances,
preparation and reviewing of donor reports.
Essential Functions
- Ensuring that financial transactions are properly recorded in the accounting system and updated regularly
- Preparing monthly financial reports and quarterly donor reports
- Timely signal significant under- or overspending, and offer explanation for variances, keeping in mind the costed workplan for the project.
- Preparing monthly bank reconciliations
- Supporting annual budget processes.
- Disbursement of funds during activities
- Coordinating and supervising the preparation of liquidations/ retirement of funds
- Supporting external audit processes
- Ensuring that relevant taxes have been duly deducted from all payments in line with tax
regulations - Preparing and maintaining payroll for the project
- Maintaining and updating the Fixed asset register
- Filing of Project finance related documents
Required Qualification, Experience and Skills
- Candidates for consideration must have Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or ACCA Holder
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a similar position for a Non-governmental
organization. - Vast knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven attention to detail, follow-through skills, and problem solving skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize heavy workloads in order to meet sensitive deadlines.
- Ability to interact well with others
