Introduction
MLW conducts internationally excellent research in areas within Clinical & Experimental Medicine, Infection Biology, Maternal, Neonatal & Child Health, Population Health, Social Sciences, and Vaccines, with the aim of tackling health and wellbeing challenges in Malawi and beyond. MLW also seeks to nurture and train the next generation of researchers and leaders in public health, providing them with access to excellent funding, facilities, and partnerships.
The Public Health and Biostatistics Associate Research groups at MLW forms part of the Population Health Theme at MLW. Broadly, the theme works on the following areas; high-resolution surveillance, epidemiology, and geospatial statistics to inform better-targeted delivery of health interventions; randomised trial designs, implementation, and analysis methods to rapidly evaluate promising health interventions; and health economics, policy, and implementation science to scale up interventions and measure impact.
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Project Manager to oversee the planning, execution, and monitoring of a large-scale TB study. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in project management, experience in clinical or public health research, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in achieving project objectives within timelines and budget constraints.
Responsibilities
- Project Planning and Execution:
- Develop and manage detailed project plans, timelines, and milestones.
- Coordinate with investigators, stakeholders, and sponsors to ensure alignment on project objectives.
- Oversee participant recruitment, data collection, and data management processes.
- Team Management and Coordination:
- Assembling and managing a multidisciplinary team of researchers, data collectors, and other relevant personnel.
- Facilitate regular team meetings and provide clear communication on progress, challenges, and deliverables.
- Resolve conflicts and ensure effective collaboration among team members.
- Regulatory and Compliance Oversight:
- Ensure all project activities comply with ethical guidelines, regulatory requirements, and institutional policies.
- Prepare and submit IRB applications and manage ongoing communication with regulatory bodies.
- Budget and Resource Management:
- Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Monitor project expenditure, provide regular financial reports to stakeholders and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Risk Management:
- Identify and assess potential risks to the project such as delays, budget overruns and develop mitigation strategies.
- Monitor trial progress and implement contingency plans as needed throughout the project lifecycle.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Oversee the creation of study protocols, progress reports, and final study reports.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation for audit and reporting purposes.
All staff are employed under the MLW Programme and are ultimately responsible to the Programme whether directly employed under the Core Grant, a Research Fellowship or project grant. All staff are expected to be flexible and may be required to contribute to the activities of the Core Programme or other projects.
Requirements
- Advanced degree in public health, epidemiology, or a related field.
- Experience:
- At least 2 years of project management experience, preferably in clinical or epidemiological research.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with research methodologies is a plus.
