ActionAid is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the following vacant position:

Position:           Project Officer (Mining)

Reporting to: Programme and Policy Lead

Location: Lilongwe

Duration: Up to 31 December,2025

Role Overview: The Project Officer directly facilitates project planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, evaluation and impact assessment of the Climate Just Transition in Mining project in line with the CSP VI, policies, processes, procedures, systems, standards, frameworks and relevant laws. The role includes advocacy, partner identification and development, community mobilization, general administration and resource mobilisation

Responsibilities

  • Programme Planning, Implementation, Monitoring and evaluation
  1. Coordinate identification, assessment of partners, development of partnership agreements and capacity building.
  2. Facilitate development and review of annual work plans and budgets (Programmes & donor funded projects) for the project
  3. Facilitate implementation of work plans and compilation of reports in line with the agreed schedule
  4. Monitor implementation of M&E frameworks in line with defined indicators
  5. Facilitate continuous participatory review and reflection processes.
  6. Participate in and represent the organization in relevant meetings
  • Social Mobilization, Advocacy & Campaign
  1. Support mobilisation and formation of people’s organizations at community and district level for social change and greater attainment of women’s rights.
  2. Support identification of issues for advocacy and policy influencing at district and national level including emerging issues from implementation and contextual changes
  3. Organize and coordinate campaigns by partners including guiding stakeholder analyses
  4. Support the development of key messages and tactics and linking them with national and international commemorations and organizational campaigns.
  • Resource Mobilization
  1. Support resource mobilization activities including development of donor project concept notes and full project proposals.
  2. Support implementation of donor contract management system by provision of information and data
  3. Finance, General Administration
  1. Prepare requisitions and liquidations.
  2. Supports grant management.
  3. Reviews of management accounts and providing feedback.
  4. Support development and implementation of procurement plans.
  5. Provide timely feedback and responses to programme related tasks/requests from the national office units and cluster office.
  6. Facilitate all logistics for the project with other units.
  7. Provision of information, clarification in support of reviews including audit.
  8. Orient partners on relevant AAM policies and procedures e.g., Whistle blowing, Sexual Harassment Exploitation and Safeguarding

Qualifications and Experience:   

  1. The ideal candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Development Studies or related Social Science field its equivalent from a recognised University.
  2. At least two years of practical experience in climate justice and mining advocacy.
  3. Demonstrable experience in research and working within influential coalitions and networks.
  4. Demonstrate experience in advocacy and campaigning, research, and policy analysis
  5. Experience in monitoring and evaluation, and impact assessment.
  6. Passion and solidarity with people living in poverty particularly women and youth.
  7. Experience in women rights and youth programming.
