Job Description

TIYENI is a local non-governmental organization mandated to promote sustainable farming in Malawi through an innovative climate smart agriculture method known as the Deep Bed Farming. Since 2005, Tiyeni has been implementing soil and water conservation agriculture to smallholder farm families to achieve food security and combat poverty at household level in Malawi.

With Funding from the Global Innovation Fund GIF, Tiyeni in Partnership with the Northern Region Water Board NRWB and the Stockholm International Water Institute SIWI is implementing a 4 year project to conserve the Lunyangwa River Catchment in Mzimba.

We are inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following vacant position.

General Abilities and skills

  1. Ability to work under pressure and meet targets
  2. Passionate about serving farmers in the rural areas
  3. Must be able to work with minimum supervision
  4. Excellent report writing skills
  5. Ability to analyse data and provide actionable insights based on field assessments.
  6. Designing and implementing M&E systems
  7. Problem-Solving Abilities. A proactive approach to identifying challenges and developing solutions.
  8. Strong Communication Skills

Position: PROJECT OFFICER (2)

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Facilitate the implementation of climate smart agriculture e.g., Deep Bed Farming system
  2. Conduct participatory development programs with community members
  3. To provide day to day technical support to all trained stakeholders
  4. Identify groups and other stakeholders interested in deep bed farming.
  5. Record all necessary data in any project site.
  6. Prepare a monthly report and submit to the Supervising Manager in time
  7. Perform any other duties assigned by management.
  8. Work closely with govt staff, NGOs and other stakeholders to align DBF with broader Agricultural development goals.

Qualification

  1. Should have a degree in Agriculture or any related field,
  2. Should have experience in training smallholder farmers soil and water conservation methods and techniques, using group approaches, and
  3. Those with a valid motor bike license will have an added advantage.
