Job Description
The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited is incorporated under the Companies Act of the Laws of Malawi. Its core business is to procure, transmit and distribute electric power in Malawi as well as managing System Market Operations and Single Buyer licensees in Malawi. ESCOM is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions currently existing within the Corporation.
Regional Manager (North) (1 Position)
Grade: ES4
Location: Regional Office (North)
Supervised by: Director of Distribution
Purpose of the Job
To provide strategic leadership and management for the Regional Office, ensuring effective interpretation and implementation of electricity distribution and customer service policies. The role involves developing and executing work programs, plans, and budgets to enhance regional operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and alignment with ESCOM’S strategic objectives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Initiating the formulation and review of electricity distribution and supply policies, strategies, annual work plans, and budgets Creating an appropriate working climate in the region
- Planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the implementation of electricity distribution and supply services’ operations, financial, human resource, administrative, organizational, and cultural activities in the region in accordance with good practice and legal provisions Mobilizing resources for operations in respect of region’s programs and ensuring that assets, infrastructure, and the resources are safe and appropriately used for the furtherance of the objectives of the Corporation
- Monitoring and ensuring that construction of and maintenance of distribution and supply infrastructure in the region are carried out timely and appropriately.
- Attending management meetings for Strategic and business review Developing and reviewing Revenue Protection reduction strategies for the region
- Coordinating contracts for outsourced services at regional level
- Monitoring and evaluating performance of all departments in the Region
- Responding to queries on matters related to electricity distribution and supply in the region
- Preparing and presenting appropriate reports to management as required from time to time
- Championing change management, corporate govemance; risk management and internal control processes on matters related to electricity distribution and supply services in regional management matters

Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- The ideal candidate must possess a minimum qualification of a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Sustainable Energy Systems, Energy Engineering, or Metallurgy & Materials Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Candidates holding a Bachelors Degree in a technical field, along with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Strategic Management, may also apply.
- Applicants must have a minimum of 7 years of work experience in the power industry or related field, with at least 3 years of experience at managerial level.
- Registration with the Malawi Engineering Institution (MEI) or any recognized international engineering body is required.
