Rewrites News Analyst
The post is tenable at Blantyre Office and the job holder reports to the Rewrites Editor.
Job Brief
The job holder monitors and covers breaking news and significant events from around the world to yield well-researched news analysis on global issues. He or she also pieces together bits of related stories from multiple NPL journalists and correspondents into single coherent stories.
Duties and Responsibilities
i. Content Development
- Monitors international news on radio, TV, Internet and social media platforms to be synthesised into analytical news with localised slants and flavour.
- Gathers and assembles interviews and information from different writers into coherent, concrete and complete analytical, interpretive and descriptive news items.
- Conducts research to get a deeper insight into international issues before presenting them as news ideas whilst avoiding plagiarism.
ii. News writing and reporting
- Write accurate, balanced and complete news articles.
- Corroborate data with concrete evidence, exercise professional, ethical, legal and sound judgement at all times.
iii. Digital first
As in 1(iii) above.
Required Skills and Competences As in (2) above
Qualifications and work experience
- A minimum of Degree in Journalism, International Relations, Humanities and English.
- At least three years’ work experience in a busy newsroom.
