Job Description

VACANCY – SALES OFFICER, OFF-GRID SOLAR

Sollys Energy is a Malawian for-profit company that is on a mission to end energy poverty in Malawi by making quality solar appliances affordable and accessible to households and businesses in Malawi’s semi-urban and rural off-grid areas. We distribute VeraSol-Certified solar lanterns and solar home systems using a network of local sales agents, enabling customers to pay flexibly over a period of time using Pay-As-You-Go technology. We also design and install solar-powered backup systems for urban individuals and organizations.

Since August 2020, we have reached 500+ households with our products and plan to expand to reach 1000+ households by the end of 2025. We have created 3 full-time staff and 50 part-time sales agent positions, and all our staff and sales agents are below the age of 35. In 2024, Sollys Energy entered into a partnership with the Ministry of Energy in Malawi to scale the distribution of solar home systems to more households in rural Malawi. With support from The World Bank through a grant from the Malawi Off-Grid Market Development Fund (Ngwee Ngwee Ngwee Fund), Sollys Energy aims to connect an additional 1,000 households by June 2025.

Sollys Energy is seeking to hire a Sales Officer for Off-Grid Solar, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. The ideal candidate is a proactive, results-oriented, hands-on, and detail-oriented individual who will support the company’s strategies for growth and oversee the company’s sales and distribution strategy for off-grid solar products and services. Also responsible for day-to-day sales force recruitment and management, credit portfolio management and reporting, and design and execution of marketing and awareness campaigns for off-grid solar products.

The ideal candidate will be based in Lilongwe, Malawi at Sollys Energy HQ.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Solar Pay-As-You-Go Sales

  • Set and manage sales targets for Solar PAYGo products
  • Coordinate logistics for last-mile solar PAYGo product distribution
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of sales data to external partners

Sales Force Recruitment and Management

  • Oversee the growth of the company’s sales agents’ network through the training and recruitment of solar sales agents
  • Oversee Sales Agent operations and manage agent performance
  • Maintain good relationships with sales agents and installers of solar PAYGo products

Credit Portfolio Management

  • Maintain accurate data on overall PAYGo portfolio performance based on various metrics.
  • Enforce credit performance targets for sales agents
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of portfolio performance to external partners

Marketing and Awareness Campaigns

  • Conceptualize and execute online and offline sales drives for solar PAYGo products.
  • Prepare and update sales promotions budgets on a periodical basis
  • Prepare and update schedule of activities for sales promotions
  • Coordinate awareness activities with external partners

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant Bachelors Degree or professional certification, with at least 4 Years post-qualification
    experience, most of which must be industry. Expertise in off-grid solar and clean cooking products distribution and hands-on experience in its implementation
  • Experience in Solar Pay-As-You-Go Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Systems
  • Experience in credit management for off-grid solar and clean cooking products
  • Very good communication skills
  • Requires capability of problem-solving and decision-making in a cost-effective and innovative
    manner.
  • Exposure to dealing with foreign stakeholders.
  • Accurate reporting and analysis, detail-oriented, strong leadership and management skills, savvy and up-to-date on renewable energy and solar standards.
