VACANCY FOR THE POSITION OF SAND DAM SUPERVISOR

CARD seeks the services of Sand Dam Supervisor to facilitate implementation of the Strengthening Climate Resilience of Small Holder Farmers in Malawi. The project is being funded by Sand Dams
Worldwide Foundation.

Among the objectives of the project is to introduce sand dams as a new water harvesting and climate change technique in Malawi as a way of improving natural resource management, hygiene crop production and poverty reduction in rural area suffering from water and food insecurity.

Job Summary

Under the leadership of the Program Manager, the Sand Dam Supervisor will be responsible for the management, coordination and implementation of the day-to-day project activities as per detailed implementation plan.

The following are some of the responsibilities

  • Supervise construction of sand dams in remote areas.
  • Guide project team on suitable site selection for constructing sand dams.
  • Work with technical teams (both local and international) on designing sand dams and developing Bills of Quantities for sand dams and water supply systems.
  • Guide local artisans on construction of sand dams and water supply systems.
  • Train communities on dam maintenance, water, sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) practices; and Natural Resources Management.
  • Participate in feasibility study of the project area for sand dams.
  • Mobilization of communities to participate in the sand dam project.
  • Training of farmers in sand dam project.
  • Producing reports, recommending and coming up with new ideas on the project

Qualifications: Education/Technical Skills and Experience

The right candidate should possess the following:

  • Diploma in Civil, Construction, water supply, Agricultural and Irrigation engineering or related fields.
  • Experience in construction of masonry structures.
  • Experience in working with rural communities.
