Job Description

The Tobacco Commission (TC) was established by an Act of Parliament under the Tobacco Industry Act No. 5 of 2024. The Commission is responsible for the provision of regulatory services, promotion and development of the Tobacco industry in Malawi. In order to efficiently and effectively execute its mandate, the Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following existing vacant position as follows:

JOB TITLE: Security Officer

GRADE: TC 7

LOCATION: Head Office, Kanengo in Lilongwe

REPORTING TO: Human Resource & Office Services Manager.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB

The Security Officer shall be responsible for supervising and ensuring effective coordination of security needs of the Commission. He or she is therefore expected to perform the following duties:

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Advise Management on security advancement in line with the Commission’s requirements;
  2. Ensure the security of all Commission’s premises and property at all times;
  3. Maintain security detail including duty roster for all security personnel;
  4. Monitor CCTV Systems: Continuously monitor all CCTV cameras and surveillance systems to detect any suspicious or unusual activity within the premises.
  5. Record and Report Incidents: Record all incidents observed on the CCTV and report them immediately to the Security Supervisor or relevant authorities.Maintain a detailed log of all incidents, including time, date, and nature of the event.
  6. Ensure System Functionality: Regularly check all CCTV equipment to ensure that cameras, recording devices, and monitors are functioning properly. Report any malfunctions or issues to the appropriate personnel for immediate repair.
  7. Liaise with security organizations on illegal cross border trade in tobacco;
  8. Supervise all Security corporals in the performance of their duties;
  9. Prepare brief and monthly reports including ad hoc reports for Management on a regular basis;
  10. Perform safety checks/audits and take steps to correct theft by staff;
  11. Any other duties relevant to the post.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate should hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Security Studies or a related field from a recognized academic institution, along with at least 5 years of experience in military or police service. Advanced education qualifications will be considered a plus.
