Job Description
Churches Action in Relief and Development (CARD) has an opening of Senior Accountant. CARD carries out a number of programs on short term such as disaster response activities, medium to long term such as those in food security and livelihoods, climate change, water and sanitation and health. The programs are designed in such a way as to answer specific situations or problems but within the mandate and strategic focus of CARD. CARD is therefore looking for a committed and experienced professional to take up the position of Senior Accountant.
The Senior Accountant will be reporting to the Finance Manager. The main responsibilities are to prepare cash position for all bank accounts and make sure that the bank accounts have funds all the time, making monthly bank reconciliation and preparing monthly income and expenditure statements for all programs and the secretariat.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (JOB DESCRIPTION)
- Maintaining General Ledger accounts.
- Checking cash book posting and processing them to various accounts.
- Making reconciliations of various ledger accounts as requested
- Preparation of the trial balance, income and expenditure statement for all programs.
- Preparation of payroll and PAYE monthly reconciliations in liaison with the Finance Manager.
- Preparation of general journals as authorized by the Finance Manager.
- Maintain and prepare reconciliation for debtor, sundry debtor and staff loans quarterly.
- Debtors and creditors reconciliation
- Preparation of Audit schedules and assisting Auditors during Audit exercise
- Supervision of the accounting staff in the Accounts office.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy with at least 3 years work experience in a multi donor funded NGOs.
- Excellent oral, written communication, interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead an effective team
- Excellent facilitation and conflict resolution
- A good understanding of managing donor funding
- Be a committed practicing Christian
- Of Malawian origin.
