Purpose of the role
// The Senior Seed Analyst oversees the seed testing operations within the laboratory, providing expert guidance on seed physiology testing. This role involves managing complex testing procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and mentoring analysts and technicians. The analyst also collects and records data, prepares reports, and communicates findings to internal teams and external stakeholders. The Senior Seed Analyst also plays a key role in maintaining high laboratory performance and driving continuous improvement in testing methodologies.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
// Participate in quality testing activities related to sampling-fresh, returns and carryovers seeds, seed testing, results analysis, inspection plans, & product placement for seed businesses LTO.
// Responsible for planning and distribution of workload in the lab and adherence to KPIs.
// Responsible for compiling and signing laboratory results reports in alignment of certification requirements.
// Conduct advanced seed quality tests, including specialized assessments of seed physiology and results analysis.
// Tracking of in-progress samples and pending results using dashboards.
// Transfer recorded results into SAP system.
// To ensure all relevant information is supplied timely and accurately.
// Participate in seed sampling, sample shipment and testing processes for external lab testing to South Africa and government testing and communicate results to the stakeholders within required TAT.
// Prepare comprehensive reports and analyses for internal stakeholders and clients.
// Perform test on sophisticated laboratory equipment, including managing maintenance and functionality of equipment.
// Troubleshooting the issues on the equipment. Align with global team for software upgrade and improvements.
// Update and revise the SOP`s according to the test performed.
// Oversee the work of Seed Analysts and Technicians, providing guidance and ensuring accuracy in testing processes.
// Train and mentor Seed Analysts and Technicians, fostering skill development and knowledge transfer.
// Develop and validate new testing methods in line with changing industry standards and research findings.
// Troubleshoot complex testing issues and recommend solutions to improve testing accuracy and efficiency.
// Ensure compliance with ISTA standards and other relevant quality guidelines (QMS and GLP).
// Participate in global projects and innovation alignment.
// Order and keep inventory of consumables necessary to perform tests.
// Participate in one PSS/one-Management systems.
// Comply with HSE efforts, according to ISO 45001,and Bayer safety standards focusing on legal and regulatory compliance and identifying safety risks applying the HIRA methodology.
// Participate in compiling Risk assessments and Job safety analysis.
// Participate in 5WHY problem-solving, identifying corrective and preventative actions.
// Adhere to all applicable legislation, Bayer policies and procedures.
// Adhere to requirements of legal appointments.
// Collaborating with planning, production, manufacturing, customer care and quality systems, Product Quality and Quality Systems/Excellence.
Qualification, Skills, and Experience
// BSC in Agricultural degree or related field
// Seed Analyst qualifications
// Knowledge of International Seed Testing Association (ISTA)
// Experience in seed testing laboratory / seed industry 5+ years
// Knowledge of plant physiology and seed analytics techniques
// Report writing and presentation skills
// Relationships and networking
// Organizational (Planning skills)
