Job Description

The Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Company (SLWSC) Limited is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) incorporated by the Malawi Government for implementation of the Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Project. The Project aims at accessing water from Lake Malawi in Salima District to Lilongwe City and districts along the pipe corridor including Dowa and Salima. The Company’s mandate is to manage implementation of the Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Project, and to develop and manage water resources for raw and potable bulk water supply to support the socio-economic development of Malawi.

The Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Company invites applications from suitably qualified candidates of Malawian origin to fill the following vacant post on Temporary basis:

SOCIAL SAFEGUARDS OFFICER

Based in Salima and reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Social Safeguards Officer will be responsible for the following:

  1. Support the development, maintenance and operation of the Social Safeguards compliance monitoring system including reporting progress of implementation of Social Safeguards;
  2. Assist in preparation of stakeholder engagement plans in line with stakeholder engagement analysis/strategy prepared for the project;
  3. Support preparation of periodic project progress reports with adequate input on project performance on social Safeguards;
  4. Provide on-site support to consultants or agencies involved in implementation of the project’s Resettlement Action Plans;
  5. Support implementation and monitoring of the Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) for the Salima-Lilongwe Water Supply Project;
  6. Support gender mainstreaming in line with Gender Action Plan prepared for the project and provide guidance on appropriate interventions on mainstreaming of gender needs.

Qualifications and Experience

A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science or Development Studies or Communication with at least two (2) years’ experience in the relevant field.
