ACADEMIC AND NON-ACADEMIC STAFF VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to be considered for the following academic and non-academic positions tenable at its Bunda College campus.

2. NON-ACADEMIC STAFF VACANCIES

Vacancy# 1: Technician in Food Science and Technology

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology, Food Technology, or any related field. Those with an MSc will have an added advantage.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar position/role.
  • Previous experience in a food processing laboratory or related setting is highly desirable.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support faculty members in laboratory-based teaching activities including managing practical sessions and providing guidance to students on food processing techniques and safety protocols.
  • Support faculty members, researchers, and students to conduct food processing and technology research.
  • Ensure proper food processing equipment and machinery functioning, troubleshoot issues, and perform basic routine maintenance.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols in the food processing laboratory to ensure a secure working environment.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of food processing equipment, food ingredients and other supplies.
  • Partcipate in food related fairs and various food processing related outreach activities facilitated by the Department and the University or other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate and coordinate with procurement of laboratory resources.
  • Participate in budgeting and ordering of laboratory resources and manage the stock control of laboratory consumables and equipment.
  • Supervise the food processing and preparation activities being carried out in laboratories.
  • Ensure that all health and safety procedures are understood and followed correctly by all laboratory users.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by relevant University authorities

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENGAGEMENT

All the successful candidates will be engaged on contractual basis for a period of 2 years before consideration for permanent appointment based on satisfactory performance and acquisition of PhD for those that may start at Assistant Lecturer and Staff Associate levels. All the successful candidates will be subjected to LUANAR Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service and will therefore be appropriately remunerated in line with applicable LUANAR guidelines and conditions of engagement.
