ACADEMIC AND NON-ACADEMIC STAFF VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to be considered for the following academic and non-academic positions tenable at its Bunda College campus.
1. ACADEMIC STAFF VACANCIES
a) Vacancy #1: Staff Associate/Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Farm Power and Machinery
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Masters’ degree majoring in Agricultural Engineering, Mechnical Engineering or any related fields obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or any related field for a Lecturer and above.
a) Vacancy #2: Staff Associate/Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer/Senior
Qualifications
- Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Agronomy.
- Minimum of a Masters’ degree in Agronomy, Crop Production or closely related disciplines obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Agronomy or Crop Production or any related field for a Lecturer and above.
a) Vacancy #2: Staff Associate/Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Computer Science.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Masters’ degree in Computer Science or closely related disciplines obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Computer Science or any related field for a Lecturer and above.
Other Requirements
- Interested candidates must have a first degree in any related field with at least a credit from a reputable University.
- Those who are concluding their Master’s degree training may apply but must indicate progress towards the conclusion of the degree and the probable dates of completion.
- Candidates applying for the post of Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/ Professor must show proof of publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals.
- Candidates should also have at least 3 years’ experience preferably in teaching in a University of repute.
- Candidates interested in teaching Farm Power and Machinery must be proficient and be able to teach the following: Workshop Practice and Technology, Electrical Technology and Rural Electrification, Farm Power and Machinery, Farm Structures, Engineering Science, and Heat and Mass transfer.
- Applicants interested in teaching Computer Science must be proficient in the following programming languages; Python, Object Oriented Programming, Java, PHP, and Kotlin.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
A. Teaching and learning
- Develop and review teaching and learning materials.
- Carry out curriculum development and reviews.
- Deliver lectures, seminars and tutorials.
- Assess students’ performance.
B. Research, consultancy and outreach
- Engage in research leading to publication and policy development in the area of specialization.
- Establish professional networking.
- Contributes to specialized research groups.
- Supervise both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
C. Resource Mobilization
- Develop and submit grant proposals for research and consultancy.
- Manage research projects.
- Conduct short courses.
D. Governance and Management
- Participate in meetings and other administrative duties as assigned.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENGAGEMENT
All the successful candidates will be engaged on contractual basis for a period of 2 years before consideration for permanent appointment based on satisfactory performance and acquisition of PhD for those that may start at Assistant Lecturer and Staff Associate levels. All the successful candidates will be subjected to LUANAR Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service and will therefore be appropriately remunerated in line with applicable LUANAR guidelines and conditions of engagement.
